DESCRIPTION |
| The Alton Aluminium Modular Ladder is a
unique world wide patented system manufactured
in accordance with BS 4211 : 1987 and BSEN14396
: 2004. The system is designed specifically
for access to inspection chambers, underground
workings and tanks but can be used anywhere
fixed access is required. It is available
in 560mm and 1060mm modules (effective lengths
500mm and 1000mm respectively) to allow a
ladder to be built up on site to the length
required. |
| DURABILITY |
| The structural strength and resistance of
aluminium gives the ladder system a long life
in the specific areas of use for which it
is designed. Alton Modular Ladders are tried
and tested and in constant use with numerous
companies, water boards and local authorities
throughout the UK. |
| THE
BENEFITS OF ALUMINIUM |
| The excellent corrosion resistance of aluminium
is the result of its special ‘skin’
– a protective film of inert aluminium
oxide which thickens on exposure to air and
contact with aqueous solutions. The adherent
film reforms as soon as the surface is cut
or scratched, and even more rapidly in high
temperatures. The build-up of this particular
barrier makes aluminium a good choice in corrosive
environments. However, anodised modules are
available at extra cost for enhanced corrosion
protection in extreme applications. |
| STRENGTH |
| BS 5395 : Part 3 1985 states that “Rungs
should be designed to withstand a concentrated
load of 1.5Kn (152Kg) placed in any position
and should be fixed securely.” Tested
according to the method in Appendix G of BS
2037 the Alton Modular Ladder was subjected
to a test load of 225Kg and showed no significant
permanent deflection or visible signs of damage. |
| FEATURES |
| RUNGS |
| Pre-formed ‘D’ section rungs
are flat and serrated for maximum grip. The
rungs are swaged into the side styles for
increased structural strength and stability |
| LADDER BRACKETS |
| Each 1060mm modular section is supplied
with a pair of aluminium standard brackets
complete with special high tensile stainless
steel fixing screws. A range of offset brackets
as well as the standard ‘L’ shaped
brackets are available. The brackets should
be placed at 1000mm intervals. |
| ACCESSORIES |
| All accessories are also fabricated from
high grade aluminium. See illustrations. |
| ASSEMBLY |
| Assembly of the modules and accessories
is simplistic. Simply push the module into
the flange of the next module. This is secured
by a spring loaded location button which locks
the modules together. To disconnect the modules,
just push the spring loaded buttons in and
pull apart |
| FIXING |
| The modules are supplied with M12x100mm
stainless steel through bolts for fixing to
precast or brickwork. |
